Two scientists bag Ranbaxy award


Krishnan Ravi Kumar, Chief Scientist, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) and Utpal Bhadra, senior principal scientist, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), have been selected for the Ranbaxy Research Award for the year 2010.

Dr. Krishnan, who is heading the crystallography group, got the award for his work in the area of pharmaceutical sciences around crystallography and polymorphism, according to a press release from IICT.

He has developed analytical methods using X-ray diffraction for several polymorphic substances sponsored by pharmaceutical companies. He has co-authored over 385 crystallographic research publications in international journals.

The release said that IICT bagged the award for the eighth time, five being in a row.
Dr. Utpal Bhadra was selected in recognition of his seminal research contributions on gene silencing and RNAi biogenesis and mechanisms.
